With Supergirl headed to theaters this summer and Clayface set to terrify audiences in October, the DCU is officially in full swing. Several projects from the original 2023 slate have not come to fruition, while others have risen to the forefront following the release of Superman.

One such project is a new streaming series centered on one of the Flash's most iconic villains and a fan favorite from James Gunn's 2025 blockbuster. While promoting Supergirl ahead of its Jun. 26 debut, DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran told Good Nerd that a Gorilla Grodd series for HBO Max is set to begin production later this year.

Safran added that he was probably not supposed to confirm the "big news," but the show appears to be the next DCU series on the schedule. The series is reportedly titled American Villain and follows Jimmy Olsen (Skyler Gisondo) tracing the story of Gorilla Grodd, a powerful, superintelligent gorilla who regularly clashes with the Scarlet Speedster.

"More to come."
