Santa Monica Studio has announced the long-rumored, Faye-centric God of War prequel for PS5. The game, titled God of War: Laufey, closed today’s State of Play with roughly 20 minutes of footage showing Faye exploring atmospheric, lushly rendered ruins and dispatching enemies with her blade.

In the trailer she’s grabbed by two formidable foes whose armor shatters her sword, then taken before a red-skinned demon lord and a blue-skinned woman who pulls a splinter from Faye’s palm and threatens to kill her before a light distracts them. The PlayStation Store describes the realm Faye finds herself in after death as "the Everywhen – where ruthless gods from across mythology vie for power in a land overflowing with dangerous magic." She also has a friendly chat with a gelatinous cube, so classic D&D monsters may be in the mix as well.

By the start of God of War (2018) Faye has already passed; she set things in motion for Kratos and her son Atreus to spread her ashes and later appeared in flashbacks in God of War: Ragnarok (2022).
