God of War Laufey director sees potential in reuniting gods Kratos killed

This Summer Game Fest offered the first look at God of War Laufey, a new entry from Santa Monica Studio that puts players in the shoes of Kratos’ late wife Faye rather than the demigod son of Zeus. The trailer prompted a natural question: might the game let players encounter gods Kratos killed in earlier entries?

Director Ariel Lawrence said, "I think that's definitely the kind of long-term potential for a franchise that has killed as many gods as we have," and stressed any such meetings would have to be grounded in the wider narrative: "But we also want to make sure that the people that you're running into, that all [is supported] in the story." She added, "I'm not going to make promises about how many of those people we may or may not come in contact with, but yes, I think as a possibility… absolutely." Sony's presentation showcased a lot of gameplay, suggesting the title is well into development, and the writer says she is keeping her fingers crossed for a 2027 release.
