God of War Isn’t Leaving Kratos Behind
At its State of Play showcase, Santa Monica Studio revealed God of War Laufey, a spin-off that follows Kratos’s wife Faye as she fights through the afterlife. The game runs parallel to the 2018 reboot and marks the first time a God of War title won’t feature Kratos as the primary playable character, but the studio has stressed that Kratos will remain central to the series.
Sony posted behind-the-scenes videos that include cast interviews and Jack Quaid doing motion capture for Phranque, the new gelatinous companion. Director Ariel Lawrence and studio head Cory Barlog discussed the original pitch to broaden the series’ point of view now that the Norse storyline has expanded the cast; Barlog described Kratos as the ‘tree’ that drives the franchise, and named Faye and the dwarf Sindri as characters he’d like to explore further.
Sindri’s future is uncertain, since he and Kratos are on the outs at the end of Ragnarok.
