GLOBE Mission Earth educators join land cover Community of Practice
During the 2025–2026 school year, educators in the Science Activation Program’s GLOBE Mission Earth took part in a Community of Practice led by NASA Langley Research Center to refine how students use land cover data (MODIS, Landsat, and Sentinel‑2). The group concentrated on four priorities: improving data collection and submission via the GLOBE Observer app, linking observations to classroom curriculum, developing student research questions, and validating satellite comparisons.
When observers submit land cover observations through the GLOBE Observer app, the NASA Langley team collocates those observations with satellite data for the same time and place and sends a satellite comparison email that includes a data table showing how the GLOBE observation and the corresponding satellite data compare.
The Community of Practice included 14 educators; six actively collected observations with students and received satellite comparison emails.
