Gisele Bündchen returns to W cover after 19 years

Gisele Bündchen, 45, appears on the Summer Issue of W magazine, her first W cover in 19 years. She poses in a black satin Celine top and briefs, wearing a statement charm necklace filled with shells, bright red lipstick and her honey blond hair pulled back into a sleek ponytail.

Her last W cover was in 2007, when she wore a purple blouse with a very ’80s aesthetic; her first was in 1999, sporting floral pants and a leather jacket. The 2007 issue marked her twelfth cover with photographer Michael Thompson. The new spread mixes tailored pieces and dramatic silhouettes: a backless trench from Hodakova, a Gucci jersey turtleneck gown with a slit above the hip, and a Jean Paul Gaultier dress with cuffs so exaggerated they nearly touch the floor.

Reflecting on the shoot, Bündchen said, “So much has changed” since 1999, and that reconnecting with the team brought back creative energy. She recalled asking herself when younger, “Am I doing enough?
