Gerry and Sarah Harding are father and daughter in Jurassic Park lore
In the first Jurassic Park, Gerry Harding is introduced as the park’s veterinarian — the man the main characters meet near the sick Triceratops and who briefly pairs off with Ellie Sattler. He isn’t seen again on screen, and it’s generally accepted he left the island on the same boat Dennis Nedry was supposed to catch.
The Lost World: Jurassic Park brings us Sarah Harding, an animal behaviorist who dates Ian Malcolm and survives that film’s events. The movies never state it outright, but Sarah and Gerry are apparently father and daughter. The Lost World novel drops the hint more directly when Sarah, patching the baby T.
rex, says, “My father was a vet.” Ian replies, “Your father was a vet?” and Sarah adds, “Yes. At the San Diego Zoo. He was a bird specialist,” before cutting herself off. That matches Gerry Harding’s description in the first Jurassic Park novel as the former chief of veterinary medicine at the San Diego Zoo and a leading expert on avian care.
