Germany thrash Curacao 7-1 as Musiala, Wirtz and Nmecha shine
Germany opened their World Cup campaign with a 7-1 win over debutants Curacao, a victory powered by a brace from Kai Havertz and strikes from Felix Nmecha, Nico Schlotterbeck, Jamal Musiala, Nathaniel Brown and Deniz Undav. Curacao had briefly levelled through Livano Comenencia, whose effort deflected past Manuel Neuer, but the four-time winners quickly reasserted control.
Felix Nmecha set the tone early, curling home after a neat exchange with Florian Wirtz, who created several openings himself. Despite some nervy moments — including a fluid Curacao move that produced their goal — Germany imposed their quality for long spells, with Nathaniel Brown’s in-swinging cross nodded in by Schlotterbeck to restore the lead.
The scoring continued at the death of the first half when Havertz converted a penalty after Nmecha was tripped, and the result was put beyond doubt soon after the interval when Jamal Musiala finished off a Joshua Kimmich through-ball.
