George Lucas to Appear in Minions & Monsters
After creating Star Wars and largely keeping a low profile since selling the franchise to Disney, George Lucas will appear on screen in Minions & Monsters, the third film spun from the Despicable Me series. The franchise has grossed over $2 billion at the box office.
Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri said recruiting Lucas turned out to be easier than expected. Lucas had long told Meledandri he loved the Minions, and when the opportunity arose he gave a "fast yes" and has already discussed a role in the next Minions movie. Minions & Monsters follows a group of Minions attempting to make a Hollywood monster movie during the 1920s, which makes Lucas' cameo a natural fit.
Details about his character remain scarce, though Collider suggested he may be playing a Hollywood director; the same cameo scene reportedly also features a version of Orson Welles. Pierre Coffin returned to write and direct and again voices the titular Minions.
