Gears of War: E-Day gameplay trailer and October release date revealed
Gears of War: E-Day will launch on October 6, the game’s developers confirmed during the Xbox Games Showcase, kicking off the event with an extended gameplay segment. The title is a prequel to the original Gears of War and follows Marcus and Dom as they survive the Locust Horde’s initial attack on Emergence Day.
Built in Unreal Engine 5 and described as more linear than Gears 5, E-Day preserves the series’ grisly action, cover-based shooting, and active reload systems. Characters and environments look noticeably more Earth-like, reflecting the setting before Emergence Day.
Xbox CEO Asha Sharma announced the game will be an Xbox console exclusive at launch, a claim that clashed with a PEGI listing that briefly mentioned PS5 and generated confusion. After the showcase, a dedicated Direct expanded on design and gameplay details. The Coalition emphasized the game’s cinematic approach and the city of Kalona, and confirmed this will be the first Gears title to let players jump.
