Gray Newell, the oldest son of Valve head Gabe Newell, is set to compete in the 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance race on June 13. He joined the Heart of Racing team in 2021; the outfit was co‑founded by racer Ian James, businessman Yahn Bernier, and Gabe Newell. This is Gray Newell’s debut season in the FIA World Endurance Championship.

Newell previously raced in GT4, the GT America Series, and the GT World Challenge America. At Le Mans he will share an Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT3 Evo with Jonny Adam of the UK and Eduardo Barrichello of Brazil. Heart of Racing is also fielding a second entry that includes co‑founder Ian James.

The 24 Hours of Le Mans is one of the sport’s oldest and best known events, first run in 1923, paused for a decade around the Great Depression and World War II, and held annually since 1949. Each car is driven by a trio of drivers who rotate roughly every two to four hours; teams race to cover the greatest distance in the 24‑hour limit.
