'Friends': Every Main Character's Age, Explained

The sitcom Friends became a cultural touchstone in part because viewers felt they knew the six main characters so well that even their ages and birthdays were scrutinized. The show repeatedly referenced ages, but continuity errors and playful contradictions mean the characters themselves sometimes seem unsure of how old they are.

Rachel Green is generally presented as the youngest: her birthday is given as May 5 and she is 24 in the pilot, later turning 30 in Season 7. Monica Geller is often tied to Rachel’s timeline but is the most inconsistent: during the first season she’s variously revealed to be 24, 25 and 26.

Ross Geller is clearly 26 in the pilot, calls himself 29 in Season 3, and gives October 18 as his birthday in Season 9. Chandler Bing, Ross’s college friend, is seldom dated but is plausibly the same age as Ross—around 26 in the pilot—though that remains speculative.
