Four new Backrooms games launched on Steam last week
With the theatrical release of A24’s The Backrooms adaptation, more Backrooms videogames were expected to flood Steam. Only four actually arrived last week. Searching Steam for “Backrooms” returns more than 500 results, though many are tagged “coming soon.” Sorting by user reviews yields 225 results, and excluding false positives leaves an estimated 150 playable Backrooms games.
That figure doesn’t include Roblox, smartphone, and Itch versions. One Steam publisher alone lists 12 Backrooms games with five more announced; the most popular of those peaked at just nine concurrent players. The interpretations on offer range from low-effort cash-ins to inventive twists: a 2D puzzler where the floor is lava and you play a cat, a military shooter called Backroom Warfare II, a co-op game starring chained teddy bears, a version with an evil Santa, and even a brainrot-strewn Skibidi Gyatrooms.
With so many similar releases, it can be hard for casual players to find something worthwhile.
