Formula E reveals first calendar for GEN4 with lots of real race tracks
Formula E is entering the final year under its current technical regulations, with a new single-seater electric car, GEN4, due at the start of the next season, which opens in December in Saudi Arabia. The GEN4 car is a major upgrade: at times it will be more powerful than a Formula 1 car, although heavier and with much less downforce.
As speeds rise with GEN4, some of the sport’s current venues have become unsuitable. The season 12 calendar makes that shift clear: 21 races across 13 cities and a noticeable move toward traditional race tracks. The Saudi double-header is scheduled for December 18 and 19 and is the only round this year.
Racing resumes in 2027 with three Formula 1 venues in North America—Mexico on January 16, the Circuit of the Americas on February 7, and the Miami International Autodrome on February 20. Adding COTA brings the series’ seventh U.S. location since 2015, following the American Airlines Arena in Miami, Long Beach, Brooklyn, Portland, Homestead-Miami, and the Hard Rock Stadium on the outskirts of Miami.
