FNAF 3 is not being written by Scott Cawthon

Gary Dauberman will write Five Nights at Freddy's 3 instead of series creator Scott Cawthon. Dauberman is known for scripting the Annabelle and It movies, wrote the 2025 Until Dawn adaptation, and consulted on this year’s Street Fighter film. Cawthon has been closely involved with the franchise since it began in 2014, having co-written the first movie and been the sole writer credited on its sequel.

For the third film he will be credited and involved as a producer. The story and whether Josh Hutcherson, Piper Rubio, Elizabeth Lail, Matthew Lillard, or other members of the second movie’s cast will return remain unknown, and the film does not yet have a release date on Universal Pictures’ upcoming slate.

Emma Tammi is expected to return as director.
