Tyler Hoechlin will not return as the voice of Sephiroth in Final Fantasy 7 Revelation. Travis Willingham of Critical Role will take the role, director Naoki Hamaguchi confirmed in an interview with YouTuber Maximilian Dood after the Summer Game Fest livestream.

Hamaguchi said the role was recast because Hoechlin was "unable to return," seemingly due to a scheduling conflict. Willingham will join Matthew Mercer, who plays Vincent Valentine. This final entry is expected to feature a larger presence for Sephiroth: the original game's first half mostly alludes to the One-Winged Angel, while the final stretch makes him a more frequent presence as he attempts to bring about an apocalypse — hence the title Revelation, the section of the Bible about the end of the world.

Willingham has an extensive voice-acting résumé, from Grog in The Legend of Vox Machina (the character he played in the Dungeons & Dragons actual play show) to roles such as Thor, Superman, and Roy Mustang from Fullmetal Alchemist.
