Final Fantasy 6 is a must-play on Xbox Game Pass
Final Fantasy 6 arrives on Xbox Game Pass on June 2, and it’s worth a spin whether you’re an RPG fan or haven’t played it in decades. Square Enix’s ambitious Super Nintendo adventure was the series’ third and last outing on the SNES and stands out as the final pixel-art mainline entry.
The game features an ensemble cast of 14 permanent playable characters rather than a single protagonist. Memorable figures include Terra, the conflicted general Celes, Locke, the taciturn yeti Umaro, and the twin princes of Figaro. Each character brings a distinct fighting style: Setzer uses a slot machine, Mog performs magical dances, Edgar attacks with tools like chainsaws and drills, and Sabin executes martial-arts techniques that require precise button inputs—one boss fight even lets him suplex a train.
FF6 also gives players one of the series’ most infamous villains in the demonic clown Kefka, who revels in chaos.
