The Financial Conduct Authority has warned football clubs, including those in the Premier League, to steer clear of sponsorship deals with unauthorized financial firms. The regulator says several crypto and online trading platforms are using club partnerships to target supporters and that fans using them "risk losing all their money." The FCA wrote directly to clubs, saying sponsorships with unauthorized firms could breach UK financial services law and expose teams to legal liability, money-laundering risks and serious reputational damage if they fail to carry out adequate checks.

It expects every UK club to conduct proper, ongoing due diligence and will take action where concerns have been identified. Crypto and trading brands have rapidly increased their presence in football. LAK3 Company, which sponsored Wolverhampton Wanderers in the 2024-25 season, appears on the FCA's Warning List.
