I played the Fractured Blooms demo at Summer Game Fest 2026 and felt as if I had started life over in a filthy West Virginia forest. The game, from Doki Doki Literature Club publisher Serenity Forge, leans into Appalachian mysticism and a slow, unsettling mood; I’m convinced the demo available now is more intoxicating than anything you’ll touch during Steam Next Fest.

The playable portion opens with teen protagonist Angie confessing, "Can I tell you a secret? I'm not scared." She remembers a shining white bouquet, but red petals fall from the sky as she enters an old church where a plate of raw meat stares from the altar and a congregation recommends partaking in His flesh.

The demo sketches the loop that will define Angie’s days: farm, cook, pick up after herself. Players harvest a tomato from the golden garden, notice the treehouse is rotting, and make venison stew with noodles and thyme. Angie sobs because the work never stops; at one point she drowns herself at the behest of an anime redhead.
