Far-right figures seize Henry Nowak murder to push rhetoric on race
Polish far‑right politicians and populists in France, Spain and Japan have seized on the murder of Henry Nowak, focusing on harrowing clips of his final moments. Despite pleas from Nowak’s family not to exploit the killing and to concentrate on cutting knife crime, much commentary has emphasised race and immigration.
Police footage of the 18‑year‑old’s last minutes has been shared across the world; he was arrested and handcuffed as he lay dying from stab wounds, while his murderer, Vickrum Digwa, who had stabbed him five times, lied to police that he had been racially abused.
At an activists’ meeting in Hammersmith, Marta Czech of the Confederation of the Polish Crown called for a "defence of Poles in our country and abroad" and said: "We don’t have politicians who will care about Polish interests, or Poles, who will represent our values abroad, people with a Polish face, with a Polish passport.
