Fans roast tired-looking Dragon Quest 12 protagonist

Dragon Quest 12 was re-revealed as a whole new game titled Dragon Quest 12: Beyond Dreams instead of Flames of Fate, and its new protagonist looks distinctly exhausted. That prompted a wave of online ridicule, with some questioning whether the character was designed by the late Akira Toriyama — a claim that appears baseless.

As a longtime fan, I don't see the problem. Dragon Quest heroes have often been derpy little weirdos with goofy hair; Dragon Quest 11's hero had a dirty blond, middle-parted bob and a purple tunic. The series isn't typically known for impossibly handsome leads the way some others are.
