Fans Debate Whether GTA 6 Has Suffered a Graphical Downgrade
When Rockstar revealed GTA 6’s price on June 24—$80, or $100 for a bundle—and released a new set of screenshots, players began scrutinizing the images for flaws and secrets. The studio also said the game will be available only digitally at launch, with physical copies containing download codes, which sent fans poring over every pixel.
Across Reddit, Twitter, and the GTA Forums people compared buildings, foliage, and characters’ facial hair, focusing on a safehouse seen in a trailer and a freshly shared screenshot. Some argued the newer images look worse, while others pointed out differences in time of day, weather, camera angle and the sun’s position, noting how lighting and shadows can change the color and feel of a scene; one user even posted Cyberpunk 2077 gifs to illustrate the effect.
Claims about downgraded textures and hair drew pushback explaining that developers often reduce detail as objects and characters move away from the camera, and that lighting passes and rendering limits can cause variation between shots.
