Fans Criticize Halo Remake’s Redesigned Ring
The Halo remake’s updated visuals have drawn plenty of attention, and the new take on the series’ iconic ring proved especially divisive. Halo Studios posted a six-hour cut of the original Combat Evolved theme playing over footage of the remade Halo ring; while some fans enjoyed the nostalgia, many others felt the ring simply didn’t look right.
Critics point to the proportions and scale of the mechanical details. The original ring’s exterior read as tiny, hard-to-discern features that left the structure feeling vast and mysterious; the remake’s deeper, larger greeble makes the surface read more like a city or a bridge, even jewelry or the contours of a graphics card.
One online concept artist said the new design misunderstands how scale reduces perceived three-dimensional depth and parallax at distance, so distant features should appear flatter.
