Fan PC port of Spyro 1 runs on Windows 11, creators say 'no AI'
All three original Spyro games are available on Steam as the Spyro Reignited Trilogy, and Toys for Bob is working on Spyro: A Realm Beyond, the first new Spyro game in almost 20 years. The original PS1 versions are not playable on PC — at least, not yet. Speedrunner lumilaura posted a video to X showing what appears to be Spyro the Dragon running natively on Windows 11 after being asked to test the build.
The port is the result of an "OpenPETE decomp + recomp hybrid" from porters Amec/tyscorp, built on a decompilation project started last year by The Moby Collective; so far 88% of functions and 58% of bytes have been decompiled to source code. In the clip lumilaura shared, the game runs at 60fps, supports true widescreen, uses perspective-correct textures and shows no polygon wobble.
She added that the recording was done at 60fps while the game itself was running at 320fps, but warned the build is still very unfinished, with visual artefacts such as camera flashes and awkward camera motions that can cause motion sickness.
