Decompilation projects have kept classic games alive on modern machines, and Spyro fans have more to celebrate. Following a recent announcement of a new series entry, a fan-made PC port aims to bring the original PS1 Spyro to Windows with several contemporary enhancements.

The port is not yet public, but speedrunner lumilaura tested an early build and says a full release is coming "much sooner than we all think." She shared a minute of footage showing "Spyro 1 running natively on windows 11 with the brand new OpenPETE decomp + recomp hybrid by Amec/tyscorp," and highlighting "60fps, true widescreen, no polygon wobble, perspective correct textures." Developers stress the project uses "no AI" and currently covers only Spyro 1, though the two PS1 sequels could "be easily supported." The port reportedly runs "1:1 with console behind the scenes," preserving the tricks and glitches that power the speedrun scene.

For a different modern take, the Reignited Trilogy remains available, but it is a fundamentally different experience from the OG.
