False Memory trailer sets August 2 release on Bilibili and YouTube

A new trailer for False Memory (also known as Memory Management Bureau) confirms the series will premiere on Bilibili in China and on YouTube worldwide starting August 2. The project began as an independent 18-minute short by Li Shuyu and Liu Wenyu at Flint Sugar.

That film follows a grieving boy who manifests his deceased friend and draws the attention of mysterious "memory collectors," unfolding into a coming-of-age sci-fi presented like a fever dream. The short drew notice for animation quality beyond typical indie expectations and built a devoted following.

Li and Liu are directing the series themselves, working with production partners Flint Sugar, Studio Tumble, and Bilibili rather than passing the concept to another studio. The new trailer leans into the striking action animation and surreal visuals that defined the original short.
