Fable reboot gets February 23, 2027 release date

Playground Games and Xbox Game Studios unveiled a new look at Fable during the Xbox Games Showcase, closing the trailer with a surprise: the game will launch on February 23, 2027.

The trailer adopts a considerably darker tone than previous previews. Hayley Atwell stars as a villain who believes she can be Albion’s one true hero.

The project is a reboot of the open-world RPG franchise, with the narrative and the world of Albion shaped by player decisions. First announced in 2020, Fable has appeared at several Xbox Game Showcases and had been aiming for a 2025 release before being pushed back; it was delayed to 2026 in February 2025 and then postponed again last month to February 2027 to avoid Grand Theft Auto 6 and the crowded fall slate, of which there are too many.

Fable will arrive on PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X on February 23, 2027, and will be available day one on Xbox Game Pass.
