Exodus: The Big Preview — Hands-on gameplay and developer access
Exodus, from Archetype Entertainment under Wizards of the Coast, mixes familiar ingredients in an attempt to create something new. Comparisons to Mass Effect are inevitable given the shared genre and developer backgrounds, but Exodus already feels distinct. The game isn't due until at least 2027, yet the developers recently invited us to see early builds and discuss what Exodus aims to be.
That access made it possible to ask how a new spacefaring sci‑fi RPG can stand out in a crowded field. Hands‑on time on a hostile planet—only a couple of hours—was enough to reveal a lean toward more tactical combat when initiating encounters. A lot remains under wraps, but the approach lends the combat an engaging, deliberate rhythm.
