Everyone in Rust is getting a new face
Rust's character customization has always been unusual: you don't get to choose. Looks are generated by a random seed, covering face, race, gender and even the size of your dong or boobs. With the newest update, those faces are changing. Facepunch Studios says it has overhauled the player model from the ground up, with improved meshes and materials, more realistic proportions on a new rig, expanded head and hair seeds, and a broad pass over almost everything player-related.
The studio notes the old model served for almost 10 years but had begun to lag behind the rest of the game and was holding back bigger improvements to characters, animations and future features. Your face will change, though Facepunch says race and gender seeds have been kept intact and body features will remain the same, so long-time players shouldn't be too shocked.
The studio also hopes to have a player customizer implemented by the end of the year, but details are still being discussed internally.
