Apple unveiled the first iOS 27 developer beta at WWDC 2026 on June 8. A public beta is expected within the next month or two, with the general release likely arriving in September 2026. While public betas let enthusiasts test new features, most users are best served by waiting for the stable release.

Apple says compatible devices include iPhones from the 11 through the 17 series, covering standard, mini, Plus, Pro and Pro Max variants, plus the iPhone SE (3rd generation or later). These models can install the iOS 27 developer beta now. Older phones are left out: iPhone X, XR, XS, XS Max, the 2nd‑generation SE and earlier models will not receive iOS 27.

If your device is no longer supported, you can sell or trade it; retailers such as Apple, Best Buy and Amazon accept trade‑ins, and values depend on condition and storage. You can also check trade‑in offers at telecom authorized dealers. Apple rolls out its software in three phases: developer beta, public beta and the general release.
