Euro-Office, a new open-source browser-based office suite positioned as a cornerstone of European digital sovereignty, has reached its first stable release. Backed by a coalition of EU-based companies including Nextcloud and Ionos, the project aims to let organizations host an office suite on EU infrastructure while offering an experience familiar to Microsoft Office users.

Rather than a standalone desktop package, Euro-Office is primarily an integration component: it handles document editing while storage, navigation, permissions and sharing must be provided by a host platform such as Proton Docs, Nextcloud Hub, or OpenProject. Ready-to-install stacks from Nextcloud Hub 26 Spring, Ionos' Nextcloud Workspace, and Office.eu are web-based, and reviewers say the core editor and real-time collaboration work, but the frontend still shows OnlyOffice branding, menus feel dated and configuration is fiddly; the release is better suited to testing than immediate production use.
