Escape From New York Streaming Free Ahead of Zack Snyder Remake

Zack Snyder has signed on to direct a reimagining of John Carpenter's Escape From New York, a move that has prompted mixed reactions. Some have argued the original is a classic that does not need a remake, while others object to Snyder's involvement. The 1981 film follows Snake Plissken (Kurt Russell), a Special Forces operative turned federal prisoner who must rescue the President after Air Force One goes down over Manhattan, which has been turned into the country's sole maximum security prison. Made for $6 million and grossing $50 million, Escape From New York introduced a new sort of anti-hero: a cynical survivor who acts out of self-preservation rather than noble motives.
