Epic shows generative AI adding mistakes to Fortnite art that artists must fix
After criticism six months ago for allegedly using generative AI in Fortnite, Epic Games has openly admitted it via a video demonstrating the generative AI tools its developers use in Unreal Engine to produce buildings, characters and skins. The video shows an artist drawing and refining a character, then using a tool called "GenMedia" with the prompt: "Clean up the rendering on this Fortnite character.
Don’t change the design, just the rendering." When they run it the image becomes shinier and gains undesirable additions—a skeleton decoration on a belt pouch, a second pouch, a previously missing glove and strange changes to the collar—that the artist then must fix.
