England came back down to earth at the World Cup, held to a 0-0 draw by Ghana and missing the chance to potentially wrap up top spot in Group L with a match to spare. They dominated possession early but created little in the final third: Declan Rice powered a free-kick over the bar and Harry Kane had a shot blocked, leaving England without a shot on target at half-time.

After the break Anthony Gordon and Kane forced straightforward saves from Benjamin Asare, and substitutes Bukayo Saka and Morgan Rogers were introduced to try to spark the attack. Late pressure produced the clearest openings — Saka had a shot saved, Nico O'Reilly headed against the crossbar and Kane slashed the rebound over — but England could not find a winner.

Individual ratings reflected a below-par display. Jordan Pickford was barely tested (6/10), Reece James struggled to deliver convincing crosses (5/10), Djed Spence impressed at left-back (7/10), Jude Bellingham faded at times (5/10) and Kane was given 3/10 for his missed late chance.
