Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield Fumble Smooch in SNL 'Spider-Man Kiss'
Season 39's "Spider-Man Kiss" sketch set out to recreate the epic Gwen Stacy–Peter Parker moment from The Amazing Spider-Man 2, but offscreen Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield kept failing to land the kiss against a green screen. Director Mark Webb (Taran Killam) pleads, "Just kiss like normal people kiss," as the pair cycle through awkward attempts—from cheek nuzzling to full open-mouth contact—and, when asked for passion, place their lips together and alternate blowing in and out of each other's mouths.
Stone and Garfield were dating in real life when the episode aired on May 3, 2014; they met on the set of The Amazing Spider-Man in 2011 and began dating soon after. Stone made cameos throughout the Garfield-hosted episode, including during his opening monologue where she offered hosting advice, and later became the youngest member of the Five-Timers Club in Season 49.
Garfield and Stone split in 2015.
