Weiss had George R.R. Martin's novels to rely on, but by the end they had to continue the trajectory of the narrative in a way they saw fit, and the final episodes proved divisive. In the last seasons, Daenerys continued her quest for power and began a romantic relationship with Kit Harington's Jon Snow.

By the end of Season 8, those closest to Daenerys thought she had gone mad with power and, knowing she'd stop at nothing to get what she wanted, Snow betrayed and killed her.
