It has been almost six years since the PS5 launched, yet Sony has revealed little about its successor, widely presumed to be the PS6. Speculation about a release window has ranged from optimistic late 2027 estimates to more cautious predictions for 2028, 2029 or beyond.

The ongoing memory crisis has kept RAM prices elevated, and other economic factors are making consoles costly to produce. Hardware makers now face a choice: stick to the usual six- to seven-year cycle and pass high prices on to buyers, or delay launches until costs settle.

Embracer Group’s latest annual financial report notes that Sony is considering moving the PS6 debut to 2028 or 2029 due to AI-driven price increases and tariff-related volatility in the US. "Both factors could potentially have a negative impact on console retail prices, which would, in turn, hamper market growth," reads Embracer's report.
