Investigative authorities in France have questioned Ivory Coast international Elye Wahi over spot‑fixing allegations tied to a yellow card he received in a domestic match weeks before the World Cup. The probe centres on a 35th‑minute booking for Nice against Metz on May 17 — Wahi’s fifth of the season — which triggered his suspension for the relegation play‑off first leg after the LFP flagged suspicious betting patterns.

Hours after returning to score twice in the second leg on May 29, the 23‑year‑old was arrested by French anti‑corruption police as investigators sought to determine whether he had deliberately earned the caution. Wahi was taken into custody on May 29 and questioned before being released, allowing him to join the Ivorian squad.

A spokesperson for the Marseille public prosecutor’s office said the investigation covers alleged organised fraud, organised sports corruption, handling of proceeds of crime and money laundering.
