Elliot Anderson is ready to show the world why he's England's next £100m man
Bill Shankly’s line — "A football team is like a piano - you need eight men to carry it and three who can play the damn thing" — still rings true in international football. Elliot Anderson is not a singular virtuoso, but he has shown he can carry the piano, and for England this summer he could be the crucial cog that makes or breaks Thomas Tuchel’s World Cup dreams.
A Newcastle academy product, Anderson spent time on loan at Bristol Rovers in 2022 and left St. James' Park in the summer of 2024 as Newcastle needed some "pure profit" under the Profit and Sustainability Rules, joining Forest for £35 million. He represented Scotland at youth level, was called up to the senior squad for a friendly in August 2023 before pulling out injured, then accepted an England under-21 call-up a year later and started throughout the U21 Euros, where he was named to the team of the tournament as the Young Lions lifted the trophy.
