Elijah Wood: New LOTR Spin-Off Fixes 'Hobbit' Cameo Problem
Elijah Wood said the upcoming spin-off The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum reunites many of the original cast and key behind-the-scenes figures, which he sees as a marked improvement over his brief, unexpected appearance in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.
He made the remarks while promoting his new animated series Among Us. Wood described the project as a chance to “get the band back together,” noting that many creative department heads from the original Lord of the Rings films are returning. He also welcomed Andy Serkis directing, saying Serkis deserves credit for helping create the character and that it feels like a family reunion.
The Hunt for Gollum will explore the period between Bilbo’s birthday and Frodo leaving the Shire. In Peter Jackson’s Fellowship of the Ring the story moves quickly, but Tolkien’s book includes a 17-year gap during which Aragorn attempted to find Gollum before Sauron could, seeking information about the One Ring.
