Eight vibe-coding startups raising billions
Vibe coding — AI-assisted tools that turn plain-English prompts into working software — has prompted excitement and unease across tech. SpaceX said it was acquiring AI coding startup Cursor for $60 billion, a move meant to strengthen its place in the AI coding race.
Other deals have followed: Cognition acquired Windsurf after OpenAI's $3 billion deal fell through, and Wix bought Base44 for $80 million. These shifts are reshaping how companies build software and are driving multibillion-dollar valuations for vibe-coding firms.
Stockholm-based Lovable, launched in 2024, saw annual recurring revenue climb from $300 million to $400 million in a month and was valued at $6.6 billion in a December funding round led by CapitalG and Menlo Ventures. The company plans to more than double head count and now reports 200,000 new vibe-coding projects created each day.
