Dungeon Crawler Carl gets straight-to-series order from Peacock

Peacock has given a straight-to-series order for the LitRPG series Dungeon Crawler Carl, created by Matt Dinniman. The TV adaptation will be written by Chris Yost and produced by Seth MacFarlane. The order bypasses a pilot and sends the show straight into production.

Such straight-to-series commitments are uncommon and are often taken as a sign of strong confidence; past examples include House of Cards, Orange Is the New Black, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power and House of the Dragon. What began as a self-published project has grown into an eight-book series and a wider media franchise that now includes a line of toys, a tabletop RPG, a card game and graphic novels.

The books draw on tabletop role-playing and dungeon-crawler video game tropes to follow Carl, a Coast Guard veteran who enters a deadly survival game alongside his ex-girlfriend’s cat, Princess Donut, to entertain alien viewers.
