Borussia Dortmund remain actively involved in the chase for Hertha youngster Kennet Eichhorn, even as recent coverage has focused on a duel between RB Leipzig and Bayer Leverkusen. The 16-year-old’s release clause is only valid until 15 June, and a move abroad is no longer being considered at this stage.

Head coach Niko Kovac is a strong advocate of signing Eichhorn, and club management believes he already has the potential to make an immediate impact rather than requiring several years of development.

Should Eichhorn depart, the club has been linked with an Argentine defender, and Dortmund are bracing for a worst-case scenario regarding Nico Schlotterbeck.

In a separate column, Lothar Matthäus names Jonathan Tah as more of a defensive leader than Nico Schlotterbeck, praises Nathaniel Brown on the left, highlights Neuer and Kimmich as the most experienced leaders, and describes Kai Havertz as a player who has become indispensable.
