YouTuber 2dos posted a short trailer on June 28 for Donkey Kong 64: Recompiled, a fan-made PC port of the 1999 N64 platformer. The project uses Wiseguy’s N64 recomp tool and promises widescreen support, high framerates, 4K options, updated minigames aimed at “lagless gameplay,” extremely low input delay, and mod support.

Like other recompiled projects, DK64: Recompiled requires players to have a copy of the original game and contains no original assets, which the developers say is why Nintendo has been unable to pursue these tools and projects with cease-and-desist letters. The team building this port also created the Donkey Kong 64 Randomizer mod and says it has years of experience working on the game; they emphasize they are not using AI-powered “vibe coding.” The developers announced the port early to distinguish their work from a rival they say is relying on AI-assisted vibe coding and producing a lower-quality result.
