Djemba-Djemba: Onana should leave Manchester United in summer
United still have Onana tied to a contract through to 2028, but the expectation is that he will be moved on as part of his initial transfer fee is recouped.
Ex-United and Cameroon midfielder Djemba-Djemba said it has been a difficult spell for the goalkeeper. He pointed out that Onana’s loan was beneficial — he played every game and won the cup — but arrived at a bad moment and England can be unforgiving, especially when a keeper is noted for his feet rather than staying on the line.
Djemba-Djemba added that the second goalkeeper, Lammens, has done very well and helped the team into the Champions League, so a manager would find it hard to reinstate Onana. If he returned as a substitute, it could make him nervous and unsettle the squad, so, he believes, the best option is for Onana to be transferred.
