Disney+ Lands Animated Adaptation of Warrior Cats

Disney+ has picked up an animated adaptation of Erin Hunter's children's fantasy series Warrior Cats through a distribution deal with Coolabi Group. The show will premiere on Disney+ and Disney Channel, as well as on Tencent Video's platforms across China and Southeast Asia, in 2028.

With over 100 books spanning the main series, prequels, and spin-offs, the property could have a fruitful future on streaming if it turns out to be hit with audiences. The inaugural season will adapt the first six-book arc, Warrior Cats: The Prophecies Begin, following a pampered house cat named Rusty who leaves his comfortable, domesticated life to traverse unfamiliar territory and venture into the wild.

He eventually joins ThunderClan, one of five distinct groups of feral cats vying for new members and prey, alongside ShadowClan, WindClan, RiverClan, and SkyClan. The adaptation's creative roster includes A.C. Bradley as showrunner, with Rodrigo Blaas directing.
