Disney+ and Disney Channel have ordered a pilot for an Aquamarine series, with Emma Roberts set to reprise her role in the episode and serve as an executive producer. Elizabeth Allen Rosenbaum, who directed the original film, is attached to helm the pilot from a script by Sarah Watson.

The pilot will follow a teenager named Coral who moves to a seaside town and begins unraveling the truth behind her mother’s disappearance. The logline says Coral discovers her mother was a mermaid, awakening magical powers in Coral just as secrets beneath the waves threaten to surface.

The 2006 film Aquamarine was based on Alice Hoffman's 2001 novel and starred Roberts alongside JoJo and Sara Paxton. In the movie, best friends Claire and Hailey find a real mermaid who has fled an arranged marriage and hopes to win the heart of a lifeguard; the girls learn about love and friendship.
