Disclosure Day, Steven Spielberg’s thriller about decades-long US UFO experiments, opened in 77 territories and took $44m domestically over the three-day weekend. The film’s global total stands at about $92.9m, with $7.6m of that from the UK and Ireland. Starring Emily Blunt and Josh O’Connor, the picture cost $115m to make with an estimated $80m spent on marketing.

Pundits estimate it will need roughly $300m to cover costs; Spielberg’s recent original films fared more modestly, with The Fabelmans ending on $45.6m and West Side Story on $76m. His last film to clear that threshold was 2018’s Ready Player One, which reached $583.5m—about 10 times its US opening.

China has been less enthusiastic, where Disclosure Day made $2.95m and entered the charts at No 3, with more than a quarter of that from Imax screenings. In the US nearly half the grosses came from premium large-format screenings, and about 60% of ticket buyers were 35 or older; 57% were male.
