Diablo 4's Overwatch skins draw backlash over design and price
A crossover between Diablo 4 and Overwatch has landed, but the new Overwatch-themed skins for the action-RPG are getting a mixed reception. Starting June 30, players can earn Eye of the Overwatch currency by defeating Elite and Champion foes to spend on special loot for a limited time, and the themed skins are also available in the game's regular shop.
Many players say the designs clash with Diablo's gloomier aesthetic and feel too close to their original Overwatch looks. "None of these look appealing or fit the universe to me," a fan writes on Reddit. Other comments are blunt: "Mercy looks like a 90-year-old grandma here," and "This some bad comic con cosplay type shit." One critic adds, "And even that's being disrespectful to cosplayers because most of them are miles better than this." Pricing and the frequency of crossovers are also points of contention.
The StarCraft skins cost $185 for a complete set, while the World of Warcraft bundle reached over $540.
