Dev delays Sand: Raiders of Sophie to Early Access after server slam
A public playtest of Sand: Raiders of Sophie exposed more issues than the developers expected. After a server slam following its Summer Game Fest 2026 showcase, Hologryph and TowerHaus said, "We've spent many hours on our chats and in forums digesting the feedback and evaluating ideas on features, balancing, and the general game direction." The team pushed the planned June 10 release back to an Early Access launch on June 22 to make infrastructure changes, noting they "can't reliably serve enough players" under the current setup.
The data from the slam allowed them to fix "many" of the main problems, and a "comprehensive roadmap" will arrive with the playable launch. "The game and all of you deserve a proper launch," the update reads. Set on the desert planet Sophie, Sand has players build and customize a walking base to scavenge for loot while competing with the landscape and other players.
Its Western-themed weapons and aesthetic give it a Firefly and Cowboy Bebop feel with a little bit of Dune.
